The Regional Council of Goyder, in collaboration with Goyder Youth Advisory Committee (YAC), received a total of $15,900 in grant funding from the Department of Human Services Youth Mental Wellbeing Youth Grant and the SA Commissioner for Children and Young People’s Youth Voice Grant Programs.

This funding will support the establishment of a dynamic Youth Activity Group, catering to individuals aged 12 to 18 years old in both Burra and Eudunda regions.

The Youth Activity Group, guided by a dedicated facilitator, will commence its monthly sessions from July 2024. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in various activities, including board games, arts and crafts, and role-playing games.

These activities have been selected based on the preferences of the youth themselves, ensuring a tailored and inclusive experience.

The primary objective of this initiative is to foster social connections beyond traditional avenues such as sports clubs or school environments.

By providing a platform for creative expression, validation, leadership development, and peer bonding, the Youth Activity Group aims to enhance participants’ mental resilience and overall well-being.

Building upon the success of the existing all ages Burra Boardgames group, spearheaded by local volunteer facilitators Anthea Wright and Lysha Brinsley at the Burra Community Library, this new endeavour represents an expansion of community-led initiatives focused on youth engagement.

Additionally, the activation of the Eudunda Youth Room, a key priority for the Goyder YAC, will be further catalysed by the support received from the community fund.

The community funding of $12,500 will facilitate the enhancement of the Eudunda Youth Room, transforming it into a vibrant, multipurpose, and accessible space that meets the diverse needs of the youth in the community.

Mayor Bill Gebhardt shared, “I’m thrilled about these initiatives.

“It’s all about creating spaces where our youth can come together, have fun, and support each other. I believe it’s a great step towards building a stronger and more connected community,” said Mayor Gebhardt.

Through these combined efforts, the Regional Council of Goyder and Goyder YAC aim to create an environment where young individuals feel valued, supported, and empowered to thrive.
