The Eudunda community turned out in force to take part in the 126th Eudunda Show on Sunday, with this year's theme aptly themed, Birds of a Feather in celebration of the new poultry cages.

There was plenty of preening amongst the human competitors on the day as well, as the country community rallied in force to take part in this year's Rooster Crowing Competition, proving that all those years of sunrise farm alarm noises had definitely had an impact.

Among the other events drawing crowds on the day were the speed sheep shearing and dog jumping, with canines big and small displaying their vertical prowess, while the array of grains, hay and wool marked the day as a true country show.

Melinda (Mel) Schutz, Eudunda Show Secretary, told The Leader on Monday following the show's conclusion that everything went "really really well" and "it was a success."

"Record-breaking all around, because every competition and people through the gate, all the entries everywhere across the board were up."

Having the judging take place the day before did not deter entries at all, and in fact increased them, and Mel said that all the volunteers who are normally stuck in the show hall on Sunday had a chance to get out and enjoy the festivities.

"Having the judging on the Saturday, it took the pressure off and it was more relaxed and they (the judges) could take their time and really study the entries," Mel added.

And of course, the show's pièce de résistance came with the rooster-crowing competition to finish off the day, which Mel said was a big hit with the crowd.
