Last week, The Leader spoke with Gregory “Postie” Post, and Henry Schutz, the Regional Council of Goyder’s Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year respectively, for the Eudunda Ward.
At the presentation ceremony over the weekend, both Postie and Henry were announced as Goyder’s overall award winners in their categories for the entire council area.
Postie said he was very surprised when the announcement was made at the ceremony over the weekend.
“I was more than surprised, because you’re sort of waiting there to do your speech and get the formal stuff out of the way, and I thought I was all finished, and then Councillor Partington got up and said ‘there’s these extra awards here for the overall winners in Goyder, we have both of those persons here’ which was about when it clicked,” Postie said, recounting the moment his name was called.
He added that his role on Eudunda Community Management group immediately switched on in his mind.
“My first thought being a Eudunda Community person (was), ‘well this is good PR for Eudunda,’ so obviously we’re doing the right thing,” Postie said.
Henry felt similarly, sharing that “we’re doing a lot in Eudunda, and that’s been shown throughout the whole of Goyder.”
He also said that he was honoured to receive the overall prize.
“It’s a great honour to win the award, and I guess everyone gets a good sense of achievement out of volunteering and everyone really enjoys doing it for their community but it’s great when you’re recognised by other people for the work that you do,” Henry said.
“That was the highlight for me, just being noticed and recognised for what I do do in the community, in the form of the award.”
