Residents of the Barossa and surrounding areas lit up social media on Thursday night (March 21), with the distinct sound of a jet breaking up the usually tranquil evening and causing much speculation.

The Leader can confirm the cause of all the interest was a couple of F/A-18F Super Hornets, which Defence advises aren't usually based in SA, but were doing some routine flying across the country - and visited Edinburgh.

While Defence does have a Community Open Day at the RAAF Base on Saturday, March 23, 2024, there's definitely no link between the sound of the jets and the planned event, that will be a static display, which will include PC-21 and P8-A Poseidon aircraft from the Royal Australian Air Force.
