The duo you didn’t know you needed at God’s Hill Wines

For those looking to embark on a journey to the heart of Italy without leaving the Barossa, look no further than God’s Hill Wines at Lyndoch.

Promising an array of Italian cuisine, coupled with handcrafted wines, it’s the perfect destination for both locals and visitors alike.

With the recent addition of chef, Edoardo Strappa, former owner of Clare Valley restaurant, Umbria Rustic, it’s the duo you didn’t know you needed – just two talented Italians, with a love for their respective crafts.

“When Edo contacted me from Italy and told me that he wanted to come back to Australia, it seemed like a perfect opportunity at the right time,” God’s Hill Wines owner, Charlie Scalzi told The Leader.

“He joined God’s Hill Wines a bit over a month and a half ago, he runs the kitchen ‘Edo Cucina’ on his own, with help from his wife Luana, and I do the wines.

“We work well together because I like his cuisine, I like his food and I love his temperament and personality.

“Luana also comes from Northern Italy, where my wife comes from, so everything just fits in.

“In fact, most people come in here and ask whether we’re a family, ‘is this your daughter?’

“We’re not one family but we have become one family.”

Serving up a variety of mouth-watering Italian cuisine such as Pinsa, a Roman-style pizza, alongside other classics including meatballs, burrata and a variety of pastas – you’ll certainly never go hungry or thirsty on the grounds of God’s Hill.

“Pinsa is the basis, but there are other dishes - there’s pasta, fettucine, gnocchi, ravioli, tortellini, burrata…,” Charlie said, discussing the offerings at Edo Cucina.

“God’s Hill Wines has always had food - this is just a continuation with a new chef which we’re really excited about.”

Open from Wednesday through to Sunday, with special Friday evening offerings, Charlie took the opportunity to thank the local community who have come by and supported the new collaboration so far.

“It’s been good so far, we’ve had beautiful feedback and support from local people, so more than anything I want to thank the local people from responding to what we’ve done having Edo here,” Charlie said.

“The people in the Barossa are number one to me.”
