“(I) registered my business in 2010 and predominantly started my business scouring the classifieds for second-hand bikes to purchase, repair, detail, and resell.
“Within 12 months I purchased six new “Giant” bikes as hire bikes, around the time the Barossa Rail Trail construction was announced, and secured my domain name.
“The fleet of hire bikes grew to 70 and I had established seven Barossa Bike Hire agency agreements, locally. Establishing B2B “Bike Hire” agreements with local councils such as Barossa (Cycle Hub), Gawler, and Renmark is pretty awesome.
“I employ Graydon (Forward) part-time, who lives down the road, and he is a big help to my business.”
“It’s simple. Not only does it build relationships, but the money circulates locally into other businesses and sporting clubs.
“Also, if you have a problem with a product or service you can address this face to face.
“I like to look after people who purchase a bike from me, some local people rely solely on their bikes for transport and they tell me that it’s important for them that I remain open.”
“I’m also a member of Barossa Tourism and a lot of tourists, domestic and international, visit my store. We spend time with them to help plan their visit and send them to many businesses locally. Barossa Bike also sponsors a local sporting club, so we do put money back into the community.”
“We sell bikes, we hire bikes and we run a small guided cycle tour, currently hosted by Graydon (Forward). Electric bikes are quite popular these days and we also sell and hire them.”
“Two challenges …the weather and taxation.”
“Most of the new bikes I sell are on special. If I purchase discounted bikes from the wholesale distributor, I pass this on to the consumer.”
