Local e-waste depots to operate

I understand that the Barossa Council and other regional councils are intending to become part of the National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme, which began services in South Australia in July 2012. This scheme enables unwanted e-waste such as televisions, computers, printers and computer products to be dropped off free of charge for recycling. The scheme is regulated by the Australian Government’s Product Stewardship legislation which requires the tv and computer brand owners to pay for the end-of-life disposal of the products they make. South Australia now has 14 permanent free drop off sites with more sites in regional areas coming onboard. Zero Waste SA will continue to provide information about these free services through updates on www.zerowaste.sa.gov.au. Meanwhile, householders and small businesses should either store any unwanted e-waste items until a free service becomes available in their area, or use the drop off service at one of the 14 sites when travelling to Adelaide or other regional centres.
