Barossa has to wait

Local footy fans will have to wait to hear if they can expect to see more AFL action at Barossa Park, with the venues for next year's Gather Round yet to be released.

Following the announcement this week that the 2027 Gather Round will be held from April 8 to 11, 2027, The Leader reached out to the AFL to ask if the Barossa would play host once more, and was advised that the full fixture and venues would be announced later this year.

Previous to this year's event, speculation grew that it may head to McLaren Vale instead of the Barossa next year, however with the Gather Round deal having only been extended three years and no infrastructure upgrades announcements, this appears unlikely.

This year's Gather Round saw another record crowd with 270,018 patrons passing through the gates of Barossa Park, Adelaide Oval and Norwood Oval combined.
